In City Golf turns Vienna into a Golfers Paradise

What a start in the golf season 2017! An 18-hole golf tournament at some of the most famous sights of the “most liveable city of the world” has been held in Vienna, Austria.

72 golfers stormed the Viennese inner city on Good Friday and Saturday with clubs and soft balls, showing the thousands in attendance that golf can be played differently!

18 different Holes were tackled at this tournament – 9 at the Rathausplatz and 9 at the Viennese inner city. From the Bunkerloch of the Beach Volleyball World Championship in Vienna to the “High in the Sky” -putt at Petersplatz 7, to the Wasserhindernis, the Volksgartenbrunnen, just to name a few examples.

There was also a charity putting hole for Wings for Live, as well as a huge Snag Golf Inflatable, where younger visitors were able to play golf.

The event was organised by the Austrian Golf Association (ÖGV) and the Curtes Agency. It offered a challenging 18 hole course, with players being pulled from 14 Austrian Golf Clubs.

“We hope to reach many people who have not yet been involved in sports. In City Golf is a chance to show people how exciting and interesting golf really is! “said ÖGV President Peter Enzinger.

As well as the golfers from 18 local clubs, a wealth of Austrian celebrities took part. These included the famous BMX Pro Rider Senad Grosic, ski legend Hans Enn, the beach volleyball player Tobias Winter, bronze winner at the World Golf Championships Markus Maukner as well as many others.

The organizers were delighted by a large audience participation and a lively interest in the town hall as well as the city centre.

Kurt Anrather, the owner of the Curtes agency, was delighted at the great popularity of the show: “It was nice to see how we were able to meet people who had never been in contact with golf before, for this fascinating sport!”

The 2-day event was brought to a close by a gala dinner at the golf course, with a public “Let’s PAR TEE” event in the large festival hall of the Viennese town hall attended by 600 guests.
